who am I ?

Image
It’s not just about getting raped. It’s not about me getting killed brutally. It’s not about what I wear. It’s not about what I do. The questions are much beyond that.   Why am I killed in the foetus? Why do I never get a new dress on my birthday? Why can’t I even celebrate it like my brother? Why do I even need a promise from my brother to protect me? Why don’t I have a right for education? Why my father is been asked money to get me married? Why am I forced to prostitution, seen as a sexual object & least, cursed for being a prostitute? Why am I killed brutally for just been born a girl? Why am I not given a right to party? Why am I not allowed to go out freely? Why does my parents accompany me while going out anywhere & my brother is never questioned where he was last night? I am not just Damini or  NIRBHAYA. I am not just Ayushi. Nor am I Jessica. I aint a Delhiite or Mumbaikar.  I am INDIAN GIRL seeking answers to all these questions. ...

Journey called Life

My Yamaha RX100 roared as I headed to the Expressway. What better could I do to kill the Saturday boredom? Seriously? Does anyone go for a ride at these odd hours?  Its’ just 5 & even the sun is hidden somewhere beneath the grey sky. Anyways I had decided to go for a long ride on my old buddy, my RX100 & I am in no mood to take a rain check. It’s a cool Saturday morning; the sky is a mixture of grey & blue, blur. The road is quite, with little sound of bird’s chirping. The cold breeze is fresh & pleasant. The roads are deserted & street lights are dimly lit.  Dew was still plainly visible on all the blades of grass nearby. At a distance I could hear dogs barking. There are few people jogging in their running shoes, other just walking. What are these people doing? Where are they going? And then I remember they belong to the health-conscious species. Crazy people! When was the last I woke up that early? When was the last I saw the sun rising? I tried h...

Single's Day

Raghav rushed towards her as she was seated reading newspaper while sipping her tea. She was almost ready to leave for her dance classes. Raghav reached her, handed her a rose & wished her with three words. Radhika was delighted with this wonderful moments gifted to her on Valentine’s Day. She had never expected such a beautiful moment. She took him in her arms, gave him a tight hug & planted him a warm kiss. She greeted him back “Love you too Raghav”. She got engaged to Pradeep. He was a nice looking Financial Advisor. Her parents were quite happy & proud of their to-be son in law. Radhika was equally excited to get married to him although she never thought of arranged marriage. But Pradeep was a decent looking guy with a muscular build. He was everything that a girl would like to have in her better half. Radhika was an abstemious but very beautiful girl. She was exactly the partner any guy would want to have in his life. Her fair complexion, her dark beautiful eyes ...

Just the Beginning

India is rising. In April, a man started a movement against corruption & demanded “Jan Lokpal Bill”. A myriad of thousand people joined to support him raising voices against Corruption. People gathered in parks, took part in rallies, forwarded mails & protested via every other form. Being born in 80’s I had never seen any such movement. I live in a Digital age, where people make friends on Facebook & Twitter. It’s an era where one not only gets job online but also gets married through internet. Today, nobody likes to take the pain to go out for playing Sports rather prefers games on the Smartphone. I would go to Malls on the weekend not to buy grocery, it has been ordered online already, but to have Ice Cream only. I have never expected that I would ever experience any revolution or movement. I never thought that our citizen will come out on the streets to protest. But the whole perception changed overnight. I know this is just the beginning . In an attempt to pretend myse...

999 Promising careers

“ The recession hits the globe.” “Indian Rupee at its historic low, crosses 52 per US dollar.” “ India ’s inflation exceeded 10 percent.” The above headlines are good enough for a middle class man to have nightmares. The mere thought of recession leads to jolt of losing one’s job. The only concern of my or any other middle class commoner today is to pay EMI on time, pay the school fees, to bear the expense of basic necessities & to fetch my “Bread”. These headlines always came up as a shock to me. Within few micro-seconds I speculated of the ill effects of the recession on me. I fear of losing my job & could clearly visualize court summons hitting my mail box informing me the seizure of my 1 BKH flat. I quickly turned on to Google to find another career options. Within a fraction of seconds I came across at least 999 career options. I considered & analyzed every career option ranging right from teaching to research, photography to modeling & cricketing to poli...

Fragrance Exotica

She looked like the princess; she seemed to be the most beautiful woman ever on the planet Earth. I have always dreamt of, to see her clad in a bridal outfit, to get her married some day, I have always prayed for her contentment, of her to be blessed with each & every happiness in life. These were the moments when she was actually standing juxtaposed to me dressed in exotic Red Satin Lehenga that shimmered and shined, ornately embroidered and featured sequins, pearls and other embellishments, which made her look the most gorgeous woman on this special day. Her palms painted with Mehandi made a perfect compliment to her beauty & she appeared captivating and pretty on her wedding day, as it was the most auspicious and best day of her life, undoubtedly. I could clearly see her wearing very basic make-up & a great amount of jewelry that decorated every part of her body. Today, I felt to be the happiest person on the occasion of wedding of my sister. Eventually I realized that,...
