999 Promising careers

The recession hits the globe.” “Indian Rupee at its historic low, crosses 52 per US dollar.” “India’s inflation exceeded 10 percent.”

The above headlines are good enough for a middle class man to have nightmares. The mere thought of recession leads to jolt of losing one’s job. The only concern of my or any other middle class commoner today is to pay EMI on time, pay the school fees, to bear the expense of basic necessities & to fetch my “Bread”. These headlines always came up as a shock to me. Within few micro-seconds I speculated of the ill effects of the recession on me. I fear of losing my job & could clearly visualize court summons hitting my mail box informing me the seizure of my 1 BKH flat.

I quickly turned on to Google to find another career options. Within a fraction of seconds I came across at least 999 career options. I considered & analyzed every career option ranging right from teaching to research, photography to modeling & cricketing to politics. None of the career option worked for me. I felt helpless & gave up the idea of switching career. I felt perturbed so I again turned on to e-version of “Times of India” to go through the latest happening around the world.

The first headline talked about “2G Spectrum” scam. I have already read a lot of this & realized that nothing is going to happen to this case for at least next 10 years . So I simply moved to the next headline which displayed the downfall of Indian Rupee against strong US dollar. I felt myself to be least interested in this article as it might put me back to the depressed mode. Another headline talked about a Porn star getting entry to Big Boss. Another crap which wasn’t worth a read so I simply switched to read something else. I kept moving just reading the headlines and moving to the next article.

The whole webpage was full of stories on scams, corruption, murders, rape, inflation, week Indian economy, rich politicians & poor politics and so on. There were stories of controversial statement made by an ex-cricketer regarding one of the World cup semi final match. The other story claimed that Sachin is definitely going to hit his Ton of Tons in the upcoming match. Myriad of article covered the saucy “Love, Sex & Dhoka” in real life of the Reel celebrities. Few other articles covered what actors & celebrity tweeted for Big B’s new family member.

While going through all these headlines & articles I recalled few cases of which I heard about many years ago. I recalled the “Nithari” case in which Bones & skulls of many missing were found from the accused place. Then, the Arushi murder case flashed through my mind. I remembered the Nitish Katara & Jessica lal murder case. A myriad of such cases & scams revolved through my mind. I kept wondering if ever I had read even single news of resolution to any of the cases. I wondered why is no action taken yet for the 26/11 accused Kasab & why our hard earned money is wasted on such a man.

None of the articles talked about solution to even a single problem. None of the article lay emphasis on what needs to be done to overcome from all these tribulations. No one is concerned about how to fight these evils. None of the statement of any political leader or minister promised better future of the “Aam Aadmi”

But during this entire process I definitely found the solution to my worries. I realized that Journalism is a field where I can have a promising career. There are at least 999 subjects everyday to write on. I may write on current affairs, politics, scams, crime scenes, bollywood, cricket & myriad other subjects. I may pick some old controversy sometimes for a better TRP. Thankfully, I live in a country where news & controversy born everyday but never dies. Kudos to the week Judiciary & the handicapped system.
